★ Crop Circles

It strikes me that a lot of crop circles researchers do ignore the most obvious explanation for what’s going on, and prefer to jump to more far-fetched solutions.  And I’m afraid that’s just not good science.  Professor Christopher French

The crop circle activity in this area [Avebury] this year has been quite considerable.  We have something in the region of a 100 major patterns in Great Britain currently.  Over 90% of them are in this area once again.  Colin Andrews, crop circle researcher

The fact is that circle formations have a geometry with ratios which parallel those of the diatonic musical scale.  Gerard Hawkins, crop circle researcher, cited Unexplained Mysteries

I turned and I saw this glint.  And I thought, What’s that?  And automatically almost I picked my video camera up.  And this object actually just curved round into the crop and dropped into the crop and disappeared for a while, then started manoeuvring in the crop.  And it was glinting and flashing ...  And you can see the tractor driver stop.   Stephen Alexander, sighting near Avebury

A Canadian prairie outside Edmonton, Alberta ... Seven precise circles pressed into a field of thistle and barley.  The Canadian Crop Circle Research Network, a volunteer organisation that documents these cases, wasted no time getting to the site ... The characteristics of the crops were profoundly altered in ways that could not be induced by humans using ropes and boards.  Unsolved Mysteries

We experienced over the last years what people are thinking – that will be imprinted into the fields.  Professor Klaas van Egmond, interview New Swirled Order 2009

Last year we saw big floating balls of aluminium shape – five in total number – floating over the wheat.  Professor Klaas van Egmond

In Wiltshire when strange things started to happen in the wheat fields one summer the Crop Circle phenomenon was born.  Some believe that these intricate patterns were landing sites of alien spacecraft.  Other suggested they may be messages left by extraterrestrials, or navigation devices made and used by aliens.  It’s even been suggested they may be created by powerful winds: this is called the Plasma Vortex Theory.  (Crop Circles & Vortex)  Alien Contact Investigated

It wasn’t until the 1970s and 80s that crop circles began hitting the news again.  At first they were small single circles ten to twelve metres in diameter.  But as the years went by they began to spring up in increasing numbers and complexity.  Paranormal? Crop Circles

First-hand accounts tell of fresh batteries going dead, cameras malfunctioning, and compasses refusing to work.  ibid.

Why don’t crop circles form in front of witnesses?  One of the most compelling arguments that crop circles are man-made is the shyness factor: they only appear when no-one’s looking.  ibid.

Balls of light have not only been witnessed they have been caught on film above and around the fields that play host to crop circles.  ibid.

But the most sensational piece of evidence – the one that comes closest to hard proof for some believers – appeared in 1996.  It seemed to conclusively show the link between balls of light and crop circles … The Oliver’s Castle video seemed to be the definitive piece of evidence.  But within days doubts began to grow.  And the doubt over the tape’s authenticity continues to this day.  ibid.

BLT [US research group] has published three papers about crop circles in two scientific journals.  One study seemed to document that wheat seeds inside crop circles developed at a different rate to seeds from outside.  Another study analysed the presence of a strange iron glaze in one circle ... But most of BLT’s research has focused on the plants themselves, specifically the nodes.  ibid.

Surely the entire plant would be steamed, not just the nodes.  ibid.

These things are being called Balls of Light.  But where’s the light coming from?  Ted Clay

It’s [the Oliver Castle video] a hoax.  Ted Clay

I’d like to see a crop circle three counties wide.  You know, that would impress me.  Or I’d like to see a crop circle in a Christmas tree farm.  Ted Clay

There have been consistent reports of UFO sightings in conjunction with the appearance of crop circles which goes back many many decades.  Charles Mallett, crop circle enthusiast

Around the world people are finding strange and intricate patterns flattened in farm fields.  Paranatural: Crop Circles, National Geographic 2013

The vast majority appear in a small area of the UK: Wiltshire.  ibid.

Sceptics have a more plausible explanation.  ibid.

New Mexico August 2013: 113 dead elk … ‘I thought it was quite odd that there would be a crop circle in the same area where all the elk died.’  The Unexplained Files s2e1: The Real Exorcist & Elk Extinction, Chuck Zukowski, paranormal investigator, Science 2014

‘The exciting thing about crop circles for me has always been that they take a special place among the multitude of so-called paraphenomena, because they are not a subjective perception.’  New Swirled Order, Andreas Muller, Youtube 50.06 2009

‘What we’ve discovered now in formation after formation all over the world are these tiny little rounded particles … perfectly spherical … deposited in very unusual ways.’  ibid.  Nancy Talbott

‘It’s July 1983 … below the trees were five circles forming a cross … It was me on my way to a meeting … I could see no tracks in the field.’  Crop Circles: Quest for Truth, Colin Andrews, UFO TV 2002

W C Levengood: Anatomical anomalies in crop formation plants.  ibid.  Physiologia Plantarum paper

‘What caused the change has got to be electromagnetic energy ... Not one single energy doing this.’  ibid.  Nancy Talbott

‘Where’s the practice ones?’  ibid.  researcher

‘How do they get away with it?’  ibid.

‘On my way out there were no crop circles … we were no more than ten minutes … and on the way back there was a crop circle in the field.’  Crop Circles, Crossover from Another Dimension, Tony Hughes microlight pilot, Youtube 1.16.46, UFO TV 2006

Every summer hundreds of these strange patterns appear in fields all over the world.  What on Earth are they?  Who has created them?  Why do they do it and what is their meaning?  ibid.

Over 10,000 crop circles have been registered.  ibid.

A large number of crop circles remain an unsolved mystery.  ibid.

‘More and more people have been seeing strange lights and glowing objects in connection with the crop circles.’  ibid.  researcher

The true mystery is the lack of any discernible access trail.  UFO Files s1e5: Crop Circle Controversy, History 2005

The phenomenon is so popular that it obscures the history … Old chronicles contain mentions of strange formations that come by night.  ibid.

In samples taken from some crop circles the nodes are blow out.  They have been exploded from within … The plants have been zapped but by what?  ibid.

Crop circles often appear in conjunction with UFO sightings.  ibid.

Then the first of the pictogram, or elaborate designs, begin to appear.  ibid.
