Farr read accounts of the crimes. They were called the Sunset murders, because many of the victims were runaways or prostitutes picked up on Sunset Boulevard. Most of the bodies were dumped in the San Fernando Valley. Clark was accused of shooting or stabbing some of the victims during sex acts. Bundy told Farr it was a way he could achieve orgasm, an assertion confirmed during testimony by a nightclub dancer who had talked to Clark. Bundy also said Clark had sex with several of the bodies.

But as darkness falls the Strip transforms into a very different scene … Working girls had begun being plucked from Sunset Strip, murdered and dumped on the streets in the hills. On 11th August 1980 37-year-old nurse Carol Bundy called the LAPD claiming her boyfriend was the infamous Sunset Strip Killer. Her boyfriend was 32-year-old Doug Clark, a boiler engineer from Pennsylvania. Clark’s dark fantasies had culminated in a sexually motivated killing spree targeting sex workers on the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles. Between May and July 1980 Doug Clark brutally murdered six women, mutilating one of his victims and decapitating another. Ernie Clarke was convicted of one of the north east’s most brutal murders when the dismembered remains of teenager Eileen MacDougall were discovered at a chemical plant in South Shields in 1970. But he never admitted to killing Eileen and hoped his conviction would be quashed.
The case became notorious in the north east after two workers made the grim discovery while cleaning out a huge petrol container tank. They came across a plastic bag containing a naked human torso.
