Thirty years of innocence and peace in Belgium were shattered in the early 1980s. Citizens with no expectations of violence were murdered while shopping. No-one knew who, no-one knew why. Some suspected that right-wing elements in the secret services had penetrated left-wing groups. And had even killed their own police to deflect attention from themselves.
