I’m so sick of arming the world and then sending troops over to destroy the fucking arms. You know what I mean? We keep arming these little countries then we go and blow the shit out of them. We’re like the bullies of the world. We’re like Jack Palance in the movie Shane throwing the pistol at the sheep herder’s feet. Bill Hicks, Revelations, Dominion Theatre, London
Not only will America go to your country and kill all your people, they’ll come back twenty years later and make a movie about how killing your people made their soldiers feel sad. Frankie Boyle
He’s an American. They take over anything. The Blue Parrot 1953 starring John Le Mesurier & Dermot Walsh & Jacqueline Hill & Ballard Barkeley & June Ashley & Richard Pearson & Ferdy Mayne & Victor Lucas & Edwin Richfield & Arthur Rigby & Valerie White & Diane Watts et al, director John Harlow, bird to bird in Blue Parrot club
Gore Vidal was correct in prophesying that we would become an empire. That is our present dilemma. Reid Buckley, cited Best of Enemies ***** 2015
You may have to sell intervention or other military action in such a way as to create the misimpression that it is the Soviet Union that you are fighting – that’s what the United States has been doing ever since the Truman doctrine. Samuel Huntington
When Arbenz became President in Guatemala, the country was very much under the control of the United Fruit Company and big international corporations. And Arbenz ran on this ticket that says we want to give the land back to the people, and when he was in power he began to implement policies that would do just that, give land rights back to the people. The United Fruit company didn’t like that very much, so they hired a public relations firm and launched a huge campaign in the United States to convince people ... that Arbenz was a Soviet puppet, and if we allowed him to stay in power, the Soviets would have a foothold in this hemisphere ... Out of this public relations campaign came a commitment on the part of the CIA and the Military to take this man out. And in fact we did. We sent in planes. We sent in soldiers. We sent in jackals. We sent everything in to take him out, and did take him out. And as soon as he was removed from office, the new guy that took over after him basically reinstated everything to the big international corporations, including the United Fruit. John Perkins, author Confessions of an Economic Hitman, economist for Chas T Main Inc
Doctor Mohammad Mosaddegh, Prime Minister of Iran from 1951–1953: he was elected in Iran. He was considered to be the best hope for democracy in the Middle-East and around the world; he was Time magazine’s man of the year. But one of the things that he ran on and began to implement was the idea that foreign oil companies needed to pay more to the Iranian people a lot more for their oil, for the oil they were taking out of the ground. The Iranian people should benefit from their own oil. A strange policy. We didn’t like that of course. But we were afraid of sending in the troops, instead we sent in one CIA agent, Roosevelt, Teddy Roosevelt’s relative. He went in with a few million dollars and was every effective and efficient. He managed to get Mosaddegh overthrown and he brought in the Shah of Iran to replace him, and he who was more sympathetic to oil. John Perkins
We operated from the premise that everything we did do was legal. Colonel Oliver North
The doctrine that was taught was that if you wanted information, you used physical abuse, you use false imprisonment, you use threats to family members, you use virtually any method necessary to get what you want ... Torture and killing. Killing! Major Joseph Blair, Instructor at School of the Americas 1986-1989
Who is the biggest violator of the non-proliferation treaty? The United States of America. We signed a pledge that we would begin to disarm and we’re not doing it; we’re expanding our nukes. Who the hell are we going to nuke? Mike Gravel, 2009 Democratic Party Nominee
It is pleasant to observe by what regular gradation we surmount the force of local prejudice as we enlarge our acquaintance with the world. Thomas Paine, Common Sense
We owe it … to the amicable relations existing between the United States and those [European] powers to declare that we should consider any attempt on their part to extend their system to any portion of this hemisphere as dangerous to our peace and safety. James Monroe
And at last when the Americans became the majority, the seat of Empire would perhaps have been moved solemnly across the Atlantic, and Britain have become the historical shrine and the European outpost of the world empire. It would have been the most sublime transference of power known to mankind ... under the vigorous embrace of the New World. Lord Rosebery, address Glasgow University 1900
Control of space means control of the world. From space the masters of infinity would have the power to control the Earth’s weather, to cause draught and flood, to change the tides and raise the levels of the sea, to divert the Gulf Stream and change the climates to frigid. There is something more important than the ultimate weapon. And that is the ultimate position. The position of total control over Earth that lies somewhere in outer space. Lyndon B Johnson
Renewed hostile actions against United States’ ships on the high seas in the Gulf of Tonkin have today required me to order the military forces of the United States to take action in reply. Lyndon Baines Johnson
It’s almost hard to imagine anything more undemocratic than the view that political officials should not debate American wars in public, but only express concerns ‘privately with the administration’. Glenn Greenwald
What made Guantanamo such a travesty – and what still makes it such – is that it is a system of indefinite detention whereby human beings are put in cages for years and years without ever being charged with a crime. Glenn Greenwald
In Italy, as throughout the world, Fascists and collaborators were restored to power and influence by the Allied liberators. The general goal was to destroy the anti-Fascist resistance, undermine the popular forces on which it was based, and reconstruct the traditional conservative order, now under US dominion. David Schmitz, United States and Fascist Italy
We were aiming for an expansion of the zone of freedom in the world. And in part that had to do with fighting communism and in part it had to do with fighting other kinds of tyrannies. But that’s what we were about. Michael Ledeen, Neo-Conservative group
Creative destruction is our middle name, both within our own society and abroad.
We tear down the old order every day, from business to science, literature, art, architecture and cinema to politics and the law.
Our enemies have hated this whirlwind of energy and creativity, which menaces their traditions (whatever they may be) and shames them for their inability to keep peace.
Seeing America undo traditional societies, they fear us, for they do not wish to be undone.
They must attack us in order to survive, just as we must destroy them to advance our historic mission. Michael Ledeen, The War Against the Terror Masters
There are things that we Americans must be willing to fight for. Do you know, this Republic was spawned by armed conflict. Alexander Haig, Secretary of State, address to Senate
9/11 was an inside job orchestrated by forces in our own government. It was a false-flag attack with evidence planted to make it appear to have been planned and carried out by Arab Muslims. David Ray Griffin, interview Guns and Butter 7th January 2009
