May 2002: In a remote area 200 miles outside of Moscow … ‘The destination of different types of UFOs.’  UFO Files s1e8: Soviet UFO Secrets, Russian investigator, History 2008

The 13-year Soviet UFO study scrutinised some of the most puzzling sightings in Russian history.  ibid.

An underground army of Soviet UFOlogists began to form in the USSR.  They kept their studies concealed.  ibid.

Kapustin Yar ... The base was the site of a strange event that took place in 1948.  A spectacular UFO crash landing.  UFO Files s2e9: Russian Roswell

A top secret military facility sixty miles south east of the former Stalingrad ... In the early evening of 19th June 1948 Kapustin Yar’s air traffic controller saw a strange object appear on his radar screen.  At the same moment a Mig pilot about seven miles down range from the base spotted a large silver cigar-shaped UFO directly in front of him ... The pilot engaged the UFO for three minutes before launching a missile that was finally able to bring down the object.  But unlike Roswell this crash never made the news.  ibid.

Long before the 1948 crash the area surrounding Kapustin Yar in the skies over Russia had been home to many other well documented and eerie encounters with UFOs, some dating back to a time before what we now know as Russia even existed.  ibid.

In the seventeenth century Russia experienced a rash of UFO sightings.  ibid.

Another extraordinary sighting took place over Moscow in 1892.  ibid.

At approximately 7 a.m. on 30th June 1908 the tranquil Siberian forest of Tunguska was rocked by a deafening earth-shattering explosion.  Large trees snapped like tiny twigs as the explosions decimated the dense forest.  ibid.

Reports suggest that Stalin believed the Tunguska blast was the result of a UFO that had launched some sort of experimental weapon.  ibid.

But the most shocking discovery came in the form of radioactive metallic fragments found at the site, debris uncharacteristic of any asteroid or meteor.  ibid.

Where were the radioactive fragments from Tunguska taken?  ibid.

A national hero, a cosmonaut, [Colonel Marina] Popovich says that she witnessed actually battles between soviet pilots and UFOs.  ibid.

Russia is a huge land.  UFOs have been sighted over its territories for I would say thousands of years.  Paul Stonehill, co-author UFO USSR

In the beginning these reports were numerous.  Literally every week there was someone who had seen a dish landing with somebody coming out of it.  Colonel Boris Sokolov, Soviet Defence Ministry

Dalnegorsk’s inhabitants noticed a reddish ball flying parallel to the ground, emitting no sounds, which size was about ‘the half of the Moon’s disc’: its speed was approximately 34 mph and it was hovering about 700-800 meters above the ground.

Eye witnesses described the fall in different ways: someone claimed that the ball fell down emitting a flash, others claimed that it kept hovering over the Hill for a while, performing slow ascending and descending manoeuvres.

Three days after the sighting, Valery Dvuzhilny, Head of the Far Eastern Committee for Anomalous Phenomena, climbed the hill with a group of volunteers: they discovered a landing ground of 2x2 meters, and the appearance of the ground was like affected by very high temperatures: remnants of silica rocks were found splintered due to exposure to high temperatures and 'smoky' looking.

The objects collected at the site were later dubbed as ‘tiny nets’, ‘mesh’, ‘little balls’, ‘lead balls’, and ‘glass pieces’ (i.e., that is what each resembled).

… The Height 611 incident was observed by a big amount of people: policemen, firefighters, journalists, doctors, teachers, Protection Ministry of Internal Affairs officers, a group of schoolchildren.  Documenting Reality online article

One of the most interesting cases in the KGB file is a multiple-witness CE-I (Close Encounter of the First Kind) at an army missile base in the district of Kapustin Yar, Astrakhan Region, on the night of July 28-29 1989.  The file is surely incomplete, but still offers an interesting glimpse into the manoeuvrability of UFOs.  The dossier consists of the depositions of seven military witnesses (two junior officers, a corporal and four privates) plus illustrations of the object by the observers, and a brief case summary by an unnamed KGB officer.

... Military personnel of the signal centre observed UFOs in the period from 22:12 hrs to 23:55 hrs on 28 July 1989.  According to the witnesses’ reports, they observed three objects simultaneously, at a distance of 3-5 km.  UFO Evidence online article

The Russians also began receiving visits from strange unidentified objects ... The Blue File [USSR] was eventually made public in 1990.  The Blue File described over 15,000 cases of sightings, air chases, flying accidents and shut-downs involving UFOs and Russian jets.  PSTV.tv – UFOs & The Military Elite

About one year after Roswell a similar incident took place over the Russian base of Kapustin Yar.  ibid.

It seems that the UFO shot down over Kapustin Yar was the first aircraft of unknown origin captured by the Russians.  ibid.

It happened over St Petersburg in the winter of 1997 when a series of mysterious lights appeared in the sky over the city.  Multiple witnesses, several different video recordings, and the involvement of Air Traffic Control make this one of the most comprehensively documented UFO sightings ever.  Riddle of the Skies, 1999

Events in the Russian City of Voronezh can’t be so easily explained.  In this instance there were at least twenty witnesses.  Could they all have been dreaming the same dream in broad daylight?  In September 1989 something happened in the City of Voronezh ... On 27th September it was reported that a spacecraft landed in one of the city parks from which three alien figures emerged ... The encounter became a media sensation on national television and in the international press.  Drawings of children who were there capture the event vividly.  The Nephilim Giants, also cited Your World is Changing
