What we see the least of is the Holy Grail of Victorian nineteenth-century design, and the highest possible point of that for me is the jewellery designed by the neo-Gothic architect William Burgess, who is really the greatest genius of nineteenth-century design and architecture.  But he also dabbled in jewellery ... This is particularly tantalising because I was showing it as a slide at a talk about two or three years ago: when the slide went up a fellow in the front row practically slumped in his chair, and it was so dramatic that I went over to him afterwards and said to him, What on Earth’s the matter?  And he said, I had that broach ... I sold it for cash at Newark and it’s gone again.  Jeffrey Munn, Jewellery specialist Antiques Roadshow, BBC 2011
