Apocalypse, Armageddon, the End of Days – embedded in numerous cultures and religions around the world is the idea that civilisation as we know it will come to a tumultuous end.  Ancient Aliens s2e9: Alien Devastations, History 2010

The War Scroll – in chilling detail it tells of future apocalyptic war between the forces of light and dark.  ibid.

One of the 800 documents found at Qumran was made entirely of copper.  After painstakingly separating 2,000 year old copper sheets rolled together, scholars and adventurers were amazed and excited; for what the copper scrolls seemed to contain was a treasure map which showed where the riches of the holy temple were hidden away from the invading Romans.  Mysteries of the Bible: pilot I II, A&E 1994

In 1947 a young Bedouin stumbled upon a nearly inaccessible cave ... He found the Dead Sea Scrolls ... 800 scrolls.  Mysteries of the Bible s3e3: Bible’s Greatest Secrets

Written on parchment and papyrus a diverse range of texts appears amongst the Scrolls.  Mysteries of the Bible s3e7&8: Who Wrote The Bible?

Were the Scrolls based on more ancient, earlier writings?  And who collected them?  ibid.

In 1947 there was an amazing discovery: a Bedouin shepherd stumbling upon some ancient scrolls concealed in a cave by the dead sea.  Dr Robert Beckford, Who Wrote the Bible? Channel 4 2004

Why aren’t the Dead Sea Scrolls part of the Bible today?  ibid.

The Scrolls make no reference to Jesus or early Christianity.  Ian Wilson, Jesus: The Evidence II, Channel 4 1984

In Qumran we found many writings that describe what the end of days would look like.  For example, there will be an enormous war between the few elect sons of light and the many wicked people who populate the Earth – the sons of Darkness.  Professor Tal Ilan, Free University Berlin

The first attack of the Sons of Light shall be undertaken against the forces of the Sons of Darkness.  The War Scroll

They shall fight against Mesopotamia ... They shall fight against all the sons of Assyria and Persia.  ibid.

The sons of Levi ... shall fight against all their troops, when the exiles of the Sons of Light return from the wilderness of the peoples to camp in the wilderness of Jerusalem.  ibid.

For the God of Israel has called out a sword against all the nations, and by the holy ones of His people He will do mightily.  ibid.

There shall be a battle and horrible carnage before the God of Israel for it is a day appointed by Him ... As a battle of annihilation for the Sons of Darkness.  ibid.

Why would the Israeli government want to suppress their publication?  Derek Partridge

Ever since their discovery the Dead Sea Scrolls have fired controversy not only about religion but also about the nature of scientific scholarship.  These pre-Gospel texts are the only first-hand accounts written when Jesus was still alive, but many of them had remained unpublished for over forty years.  Horizon: Resurrecting the Dead Sea Scrolls, BBC 1993

That struggle started one winter’s morning in 1947 when a young Arab boy was searching for his goat in caves around the Dead Sea.  Inside one of these caves were earthenware jars containing cloth-covered bundles.  When he tore aside the cloth he could see the blackened surface of a leather scroll.  ibid.

If the scrolls really are the writings of the early Christian Church, then the information in the Gospels must have been distorted.  ibid.

The Israel Antiquities Department decided to date some of the documents ... Six were definitely pre-Christian; another two were possible pre-Christian.  ibid.

First discovered by accident in 1947 the Scrolls represent nearly all forty-nine Books of the Hebrew Bible.  At least in fragments.  They survived because they were deposited in the perfect environment for preservation – the hot dry desert.  Francesca Stavrakoulou, Bibles Buried Secrets 2/2, BBC 2011

Recent discussions of the [Dead Sea] Scrolls have been dominated by a conspiracy theory.  Professor Murphy O’Connor

When the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered amongst them was one called the Copper Scroll, and it listed a series of sites throughout what we would now call the Holy Land where Temple treasures had been buried for safe keeping prior to the Roman destruction of the Temple.  Dr Tim Wallace-Murphy, co-author Custodians of Truth

Written perhaps between 170 B.C. and 68 A.D. the Scrolls are believed to be all that remains of a small Jewish sect that lived in a settlement at Qumran, a plateau in the Judean desert along the Dead Sea, twelve miles east of Jerusalem.  A sect known as the Essenes.  Nostradamus Effect: Armageddon Battle Plan, History 2009

Enter the riddle of the Copper Scroll.  In the National Archaeological Museum in Oman, Jordan, sits the most perplexing of all the texts found next to the Dead Sea, the Copper Scroll.  It describes a treasure, gold and silver, measured in tons.  Since its discovery in 1952 scholars have wondered why this Scroll would be found among documents written by a people who swore themselves to poverty, and awaited the end of the world.  ibid.
