★ War (II)

Wherefore Jonathan turned to the Arabians, who were called Zabadeans, and smote them, and took their spoils.

Then Jonathan went out to meet him with forty thousand men chosen for the battle, and came to Bethsan.

Now when Tryphon saw Jonathan came with so great a force, he durst not stretch his hand against him.  I Maccabees 12:24&25&31& 41&42

Their enemies prepared to invade their country, that they might destroy it, and lay hands on the sanctuary:

At which time Simon rose up, and fought for his nation, and spent much of his own substance, and armed the valiant men of his nation and gave them wages,

And fortified the cities of Judea, together with Bethsura, that lieth upon the borders of Judea, where the armour of the enemies had been before; but he set a garrison of Jews there:  I Maccabees 14:31-33

Then camped Antiochus against Dora, having with him an hundred and twenty thousand men of war, and eight thousand horsemen.

And when he had compassed the city round about, and joined ships close to the town on the sea side, he vexed the city by land and by sea, neither suffered he any to go out or in.  I Maccabees 15:13&14

And giving a charge upon their enemies like lions, they slew eleven thousand footmen, and sixteen hundred horsemen, and put all the other to flight.  II Maccabees 11:11

Then Maccabeus marched forth to Carnion, and to the temple of Atargatis, and there he slew five and twenty thousand persons.

And after he had put to flight and destroyed them, Judas removed the host toward Ephron, a strong city, wherein Lysias abode, and a great multitude of divers nations, and the strong young men kept the walls, and defended them mightily: wherein also was great provision of engines and darts.

But when Judas and his company had called upon Almighty God, who with his power breaketh the strength of his enemies, they won the city, and slew twenty and five thousand of them that were within.  II Maccabees 12:26-28

In the hundred forty and ninth year it was told Judas, that Antiochus Eupator was coming with a great power into Judea,

And with him Lysias his protector, and ruler of his affairs, having either of them a Grecian power of footmen, an hundred and ten thousand, and horsemen five thousand and three hundred, and elephants two and twenty, and three hundred chariots armed with hooks.  II Maccabees 13:1&2

After three years was Judas informed, that Demetrius the son of Seleucus, having entered by the haven of Tripolis with a great power and navy,

Had taken the country, and killed Antiochus, and Lysias his protector.  II Maccabees 14:1&2

Therefore Nabuchodonosor was very angry with all this country, and sware by his throne and kingdom, that he would surely be avenged upon all those coasts of Cilicia, and Damascus, and Syria, and that he would slay with the sword all the inhabitants of the land of Moab, and the children of Ammon, and all Judea, and all that were in Egypt, till ye come to the borders of the two seas.

Then he marched in battle array with his power against king Arphaxad in the seventeenth year, and he prevailed in his battle: for he overthrew all the power of Arphaxad, and all his horsemen, and all his chariots.  Judith 1:12&13

Ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass but the end is not yet.

For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.  Matthew 24:6&7

All they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.  Matthew 26:52

Fight in the way of Allah against those who fight against you, but begin not hostilities.  Lo!  Allah loveth not aggressors.

And slay them wherever ye find them, and drive them out of the places whence they drove you out, for persecution is worse than slaughter.  And fight not with them at the Inviolable Place of Worship until they first attack you there, but if they attack you (there) then slay them.  Such is the reward of disbelievers.

But if they desist, then lo!  Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

And fight them until persecution is no more, and religion is for Allah. But if they desist, then let there be no hostility except against wrong-doers.

The forbidden month for the forbidden month, and forbidden things in retaliation.  And one who attacketh you, attack him in like manner as he attacked you.  Observe your duty to Allah, and know that Allah is with those who ward off (evil).  Koran 2:190-194

Warfare is ordained for you, though it is hateful unto you; but it may happen that ye hate a thing which is good for you, and it may happen that ye love a thing which is bad for you.  Allah knoweth, ye know not.

They question thee (O Muhammad) with regard to warfare in the sacred month.  Say: Warfare therein is a great (transgression), but to turn (men) from the way of Allah, and to disbelieve in Him and in the Inviolable Place of Worship, and to expel His people thence, is a greater with Allah; for persecution is worse than killing.  And they will not cease from fighting against you till they have made you renegades from your religion, if they can.  And whoso becometh a renegade and dieth in his disbelief: such are they whose works have fallen both in the world and the Hereafter.  Such are rightful owners of the Fire: they will abide therein.  Koran 2:216&217

Relent not in pursuit of the enemy.  If ye are suffering, lo!  they suffer even as ye suffer and ye hope from Allah that for which they cannot hope.  Allah is ever Knower, Wise.  Koran 4:104

They ask thee (O Muhammad) of the spoils of war.  Say: The spoils of war belong to Allah and the messenger, so keep your duty to Allah, and adjust the matter of your difference, and obey Allah and His messenger, if ye are (true) believers.

And fight them until persecution is no more, and religion is all for Allah.  But if they cease, then lo!  Allah is Seer of what they do.

And know that whatever ye take as spoils of war, lo! a fifth thereof is for Allah, and for the messenger and for the kinsman (who hath need) and orphans and the needy and the wayfarer, if ye believe in Allah and that which We revealed unto Our slave on the Day of Discrimination, the day when the two armies met.  And Allah is Able to do all things.

And let not those who disbelieve suppose that they can outstrip (Allah’s Purpose).  Lo! they cannot escape.

Make ready for them all thou canst of (armed) force and of horses tethered, that thereby ye may dismay the enemy of Allah and your enemy, and others beside them whom ye know not.  Allah knoweth them.  Whatsoever ye spend in the way of Allah it will be repaid to you in full, and ye will not be wronged.

And if they incline to peace, incline thou also to it, and trust in Allah.  Lo!  He, even He, is the Hearer, the Knower.

O Prophet!  Exhort the believers to fight.  If there be of you twenty steadfast they shall overcome two hundred, and if there be of you a hundred (steadfast) they shall overcome a thousand of those who disbelieve, because they (the disbelievers) are a folk without intelligence.

It is not for any prophet to have captives until he hath made slaughter in the land.  Ye desire the lure of this world and Allah desireth (for you) the Hereafter, and Allah is Mighty, Wise.

Had it not been for an ordinance of Allah which had gone before, an awful doom had come upon you on account of what ye took.

Now enjoy what ye have won, as lawful and good, and keep your duty to Allah.  Lo!  Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.  Koran 8:1&39&41&59-61& 65&67-69

Permission to take up arms is hereby granted to those who are attacked; they have suffered injustice; God has all the power to give them victory.  Koran 22:39
