★ Wise & Wisdom

Wisdom is too high for a fool: he openeth not his mouth in the gate.

So shall the knowledge of wisdom be unto thy soul: when thou hast found it, then there shall be a reward, and thy expectation shall not be cut off.

These things also belong to the wise.  It is not good to have respect of persons in judgment.  Proverbs 24:3&5-7& 14&23

Then I saw that wisdom excelleth folly, as far as light excelleth darkness.

The wise mans eyes are in his head; but the fool walketh in darkness: and I myself perceived also that one event happeneth to them all.

For there is no remembrance of the wise more than of the fool for ever; seeing that which now is in the days to come shall all be forgotten.  And how dieth the wise man? as the fool.

For God giveth to a man that is good in his sight wisdom, and knowledge, and joy: but to the sinner he giveth travail, to gather and to heap up, that he may give to him that is good before God.  This also is vanity and vexation of spirit.  Ecclesiastes 2:13&14&16&26

The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning; but the heart of fools is in the house of mirth.

It is better to hear the rebuke of the wise, than for a man to hear the song of fools.

For wisdom is a defence, and money is a defence: but the excellency of knowledge is, that wisdom giveth life to them that have it.

Be not righteous over much; neither make thyself over wise: why shouldest thou destroy thyself?

Wisdom strengtheneth the wise more than ten mighty men which are in the city.

I applied mine heart to know, and to search, and to seek out wisdom, and the reason of things, and to know the wickedness of folly, even of foolishness and madness.  Ecclesiastes 7:4&5&12&16& 19&25

Who is as the wise man?  And who knoweth the interpretation of a thing?  a mans wisdom maketh his face to shine, and the boldness of his face shall be changed.

Whoso keepeth the commandment shall feel no evil thing: and a wise man's heart discerneth both time and judgment.  Ecclesiastes 8:1&5

Then said I, Wisdom is better than strength: nevertheless the poor man's wisdom is despised, and his words are not heard.

The words of wise men are heard in quiet more than the cry of him that ruleth among fools.

Wisdom is better than weapons of war: but one sinner destroyeth much good.  Ecclesiastes 9:16-18

If the iron be blunt, and he do not whet the edge, then must he put to more strength: but wisdom is profitable to direct.

Surely the serpent will bite without enchantment; and a babbler is no better.

The words of a wise man’s mouth are gracious; but the lips of a fool will swallow up himself.

The beginning of the words of his mouth is foolishness: and the end of his talk is mischievous madness.

A fool also is full of words: a man cannot tell what shall be; and what shall be after him, who can tell him?  Ecclesiastes 10:10-14

Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!  Isaiah 5:21

Behold, thou art wiser than Daniel; there is no secret that they can hide from thee:

With thy wisdom and with thine understanding thou hast gotten thee riches, and hast gotten gold and silver into thy treasures:

By thy great wisdom and by thy traffick hast thou increased thy riches, and thine heart is lifted up because of thy riches.  Ezekiel 28:3-5

For into a malicious soul wisdom shall not enter; nor dwell in the body that is subject unto sin.

For wisdom is a loving spirit; and will not acquit a blasphemer of his words: for God is witness of his reins, and a true beholder of his heart, and a hearer of his tongue.  Wisdom 1:4&6

But a sore trial shall come upon the mighty.

Unto you therefore, O kings, do I speak, that ye may learn wisdom, and not fall away.

But the multitude of the wise is the welfare of the world: and a wise king is the upholding of the people.  Wisdom 6:8&9&24

Wisdom found no place where she might dwell;

Then a dwelling-place was assigned her in the heavens.

Wisdom went forth to make her dwelling among the children of men,

And found no dwelling-place:

Wisdom returned to her place,

And took her seat among the angels.  Enoch 2:42:1-3

All wisdom cometh from the Lord, and is with him for ever.

Wisdom hath been created before all things, and the understanding of prudence from everlasting.

The word of God most high is the fountain of wisdom; and her ways are everlasting commandments.

To fear the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and it was created with the faithful in the womb.

The fear of the Lord is a crown of wisdom, making peace and perfect health to flourish; both which are the gifts of God: and it enlargeth their rejoicing that love him.

Wisdom raineth down skill and knowledge of understanding standing, and exalteth them to honour that hold her fast.  Sirach/Ecclesiasticus 1:1&4&5&14&18&19

How can he get wisdom that holdeth the plough, and that glorieth in the goad, that driveth oxen, and is occupied in their labours, and whose talk is of bullocks?  Sirach/Ecclesiasticus 38:25

There came wise men from the east to Jerusalem ... They presented him with gifts: fold, and frankincense, and myrrh.  Matthew 2:1&11

Be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.  Matthew 10:16

Wisdom is justified of her children.  Matthew 11:19

Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.  Romans 1:22

Be not wise in your own conceits.  Romans 12:16

For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.

Where is the wise?  Where is the scribe?  Where is the disputer of this world?  Hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?

For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.

But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty.  I Corinthians 1:19-21&27

Let no man deceive himself.  If any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise.

For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God.  For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness.

And again, The Lord knoweth the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain.  I Corinthians 3:18-20

For ye suffer fools gladly, seeing ye yourselves are wise.  II Corinthians 11:19

See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.  Ephesians 5:15

But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach; and it will be given to him.  James 1:5
