★ Angels

So the Lord sent pestilence upon Israel: and there fell of Israel seventy thousand men.

And God sent an angel unto Jerusalem to destroy it: and as he was destroying, the Lord beheld, and he repented him of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed, It is enough, stay now thine hand.  And the angel of the Lord stood by the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite.  I Chronicles 21:14&15

But David could not go before it to enquire of God: for he was afraid because of the sword of the angel of the Lord.  I Chronicles 21:30

And the Lord sent an angel, which cut off all the mighty men of valour, and the leaders and captains in the camp of the king of Assyria.  So he returned with shame of face to his own land.  And when he was come into the house of his god, they that came forth of his own bowels slew him there with the sword.  II Chronicles 32:21

And they answered the angel of the Lord that stood among the myrtle trees, and said, We have walked to and fro through the earth, and, behold, all the earth sitteth still, and is at rest.

Then the angel of the Lord answered and said, O Lord of hosts, how long wilt thou not have mercy on Jerusalem and on the cities of Judah, against which thou hast had indignation these threescore and ten years?  Zechariah 1:11&12

And, behold, the angel that talked with me went forth, and another angel went out to meet him.  Zechariah 2:3

And the angel that talked with me came again, and waked me, as a man that is wakened out of his sleep.  Zechariah 4:1

And as they went on their journey, they came in the evening to the river Tigris, and they lodged there.

And when the young man went down to wash himself, a fish leaped out of the river, and would have devoured him.

Then the angel said unto him, Take the fish.  And the young man laid hold of the fish, and drew it to land.

To whom the angel said, Open the fish, and take the heart and the liver and the gall, and put them up safely.

So the young man did as the angel commanded him; and when they had roasted the fish, they did eat it: then they both went on their way, till they drew near to Ecbatane.  Tobias 6:1-5

And these are the names of the holy angels who watch.  Uriel, one of the holy angels, who is over the world and over Tartarus.  Raphael, one of the holy angels, who is over the spirits of men.  Raguel, one of the holy angels who takes vengeance on the world of the luminaries.  Michael, one of the holy angels, to wit, he that is set over the best part of mankind and over chaos.  Saraqael, one of the holy angels, who is set over the spirits, who sin in the spirit.  Gabriel, one of the holy angels, who is over Paradise and the serpents and the Cherubim.  Remiel, one of the holy angels, whom God set over those who rise.  Enoch 1:20:1-8

And I proceeded to where things were chaotic.  And I saw there something horrible: I saw neither a heaven above nor a firmly founded earth, but a place chaotic and horrible.  And there I saw seven stars of the heaven bound together in it, like great mountains and burning with fire.  And he said unto me: ‘This place is the prison of the angels, and here they will be imprisoned for ever.’  Enoch 1:21:1-4

And I saw other lightnings and the stars of heaven, and I saw how He called them all by their names and they hearkened unto Him.  And I saw how they are weighed in a righteous balance according to their proportions of light: (I saw) the width of their spaces and the day of their appearing, and how their revolution produces lightning: and (I saw) their revolution according to the number of the angels, and (how) they keep faith with each other.  Enoch 2:43:1-3

And I saw in those days how long cords were given to those angels, and they took to themselves wings and flew, and they went towards the north.

And I asked the angel, saying unto him: Why have those (angels) taken these cords and gone off?  And he said unto me: They have gone to measure.

And the angel who went with me said unto me:

These shall bring the measures of the righteous,

And the ropes of the righteous to the righteous,

That they may stay themselves on the name of the Lord of Spirits for ever and ever.  Enoch 2:61:1-3

And after that he showed me the angels of punishment who are prepared to come and let loose all the powers of the waters which are beneath in the earth in order to bring judgement and destruction on all who [abide and] dwell on the earth.  And the Lord of Spirits gave commandment to the angels who were going forth, that they should not cause the waters to rise but should hold them in check; for those angels were over the powers of the waters.  Enoch 2:66:1-3

14) For ye know that the angel Gabriel brought the message unto Mary.  And we answered: Yea, Lord.  He answered and said unto us: Remember ye not, then, that I said unto you a little while ago: I became an angel among the angels, and I became all things in all?  We said unto him: Yea, Lord.  Then answered he and said unto us: On that day whereon I took the form of the angel Gabriel, I appeared unto Mary and spake with her.  Her heart accepted me, and she believed (She believed and laughed, Eth.), and I formed myself and entered into her body.  I became flesh, for I alone was a minister unto myself in that which concerned Mary (I was mine own messenger, Eth.) in the appearance of the shape of an angel.  For so must I needs (or, was I wont to) do.  Thereafter did I return to my Father (Copt. After my return to the Father, and run on).  Epistula Apostolorum 14

Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.

Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away privily.

But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.

And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.  Matthew 1:18-21

And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.

When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt.  Matthew 2:13&14

But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeareth in a dream to Joseph in Egypt,

Saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel: for they are dead which sought the young childs life.

And he arose, and took the young child and his mother, and came into the land of Israel.  Matthew 2:19-21

And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it.

His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow:

And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men.

And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified.

He is not here: for he is risen, as he said.  Come, see the place where the Lord lay.

And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, behold, he goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see him: lo, I have told you.  Matthew 28:2-7

And when they looked, they saw that the stone was rolled away: for it was very great.

And entering into the sepulchre, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, clothed in a long white garment; and they were affrighted.

And he saith unto them, Be not affrighted: Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was crucified: he is risen; he is not here: behold the place where they laid him.

But go your way, tell his disciples and Peter that he goeth before you into Galilee: there shall ye see him, as he said unto you.  Mark 16

There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judaea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the course of Abia: and his wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elisabeth.

And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.

And they had no child, because that Elisabeth was barren, and they both were now well stricken in years.

But the angel said unto him, Fear not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John.

For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother’s womb.

And his mother answered and said, Not so; but he shall be called John.  Luke 1:5-7&13&15&60
